Victim StoryNov 2024

"I sold my family's land to pay for a UK visa that never existed"

A care worker from Ghana paid £22,000 in stages to a man posing as an NHS trust recruiter. The Certificate of Sponsorship was forged. The employer was not on the UKVI register. She had no idea until she landed at Heathrow.

The anatomy of a fake CoS: how fraudsters make them look real

Fake CoS documents have become sophisticated. Scammers register shell companies on Companies House (which is easy and free), then issue forged sponsorship documents with real-looking reference numbers — but the company is never added to the UKVI sponsor register.

What To CheckFeb 2025

7 things every migrant must verify before trusting a Certificate of Sponsorship

The UKVI sponsor register is public. The CoS reference number has a specific 11-character format. The salary must meet a minimum threshold. Most fraud victims would have been protected if they knew to check even one of these. Here's the full list.

⚠ How CoS scams work

This happens every week in the UK.

Thousands of migrants lose life savings to CoS fraud each year. Here is exactly how the scam works.

Step 1

Fake job offer via WhatsApp or email

Scammers pose as UK employers on job boards, WhatsApp groups, or LinkedIn. They send convincing job offers with salary details and a "confirmed" visa sponsorship.

Step 2

You receive a forged CoS document

A fake Certificate of Sponsorship is sent — often created in Photoshop, Word, or Canva. It looks official. The company name may even be real, but the sponsor licence is fake or expired.

Step 3

You pay. The job disappears.

Visa fees, "processing costs", or deposits are requested — sometimes £5,000–£25,000. Once paid, the scammer vanishes. UK Home Office rejects the application. Money is never returned.

Don't be the next case.

CoreFlux™ fraud risk scan takes 60 seconds and could save you thousands.
